Graduation 2012: Cheryl Ann Cable, Health Care Support Worker Certificate

Cheryl Ann Cable, HCSW graduate and valedictorian
Childhood dream
"My earliest memory is of wanting to be a hairdresser. My dolls suffered for it, and later my sister was a frequent victim of this dream. My parents were not impressed."

But then...

"Once I got some life experience, I found I was meant to be in a caring profession."

"Many people have inspired me throughout the years, and I draw on those bits and pieces of strength and encouragement in my life."

My experience at Douglas, in 25 words or less
"My experience at Douglas was very rewarding. I learned so much from the excellent teachers and my classmates - we were all really a team, learning together and supporting each other."

On the HCSW program
"This program is challenging and rewarding, I would recommend it to anyone that wants to get into health care and doesn’t know where to start."

Future plans
"I’m not sure what direction I’m going to go in, but I’m considering psychiatric nursing."

A word of advice to new students
"Give the program 100 percent and you will succeed!"
