When Aleem Jinnah came to Douglas, he aimed to get his Marketing Management Diploma and then transfer to Royal Roads University to finish up his degree. But then things took a turn.

"When I was about to graduate with my diploma, I realized that I really enjoyed accounting. Strange, I know. And with Douglas College offering bachelor’s degrees in accounting and finance, it was a natural fit."

Aleem decided not to accept his admittance to Royal Roads, and came back to Douglas, where he took the necessary bridging courses before starting down the path to a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting.

This week, he graduates as Valedictorian. Not only that, he's already accepted an articling position with Smythe Ratcliffe Chartered Accountants and has begun his graduate/professional studies at the CA School of Business. "Next stop is my chartered accountant designation."

In the meantime, Aleem has some sage advice for new students entering his field of study: Get involved.

"Your time at Douglas College is what you make it. I got involved with the Douglas College Business Association. My experience with the DCBA has been the single biggest contributing factor to my success. It  has opened many doors and created long-lasting friendships."
